A simple traffic stop Friday morning resulted in a Hopkinsville woman being charged with promoting contraband after being booked into the Christian County Jail.
The Hopkinsville Police Department reported an officer stopped 22-year-old MacKenzy Eden near the intersection of Fort Campbell Boulevard and Susan Drive just after 6:00 AM. The traffic stop was initiated after police said Eden was going 12 MPH over the 35 MPH speed limit.
During the stop, it was discovered that she only had an ID card and not a driver’s license, because it was previously suspended. The ID card was tied back to a Tennessee address that Eden had not lived at for the last two months.
Eden was initially charged with speeding, operating a vehicle on a suspended license, failure to maintain insurance, having no registration receipt, and failure to notify the Department of Transportation of an address change.
While being booked into the Christian County Jail, Eden told deputies she did not have anything that would be considered contraband, but upon a search, a needle consistent with drug use was found inside her bra. She stated the needle was used for heroin consumption the day before.
After being medically cleared at Jennie Stuart Health, Eden was also charged with first-degree promoting contraband.
