Hopkinsville Soapbox Derby Winners Head To Nationals

Four champions will be heading to Akron, Ohio, after winning their divisions this weekend in the 17th annual Hopkinsville Soapbox Derby.

Races took place Saturday at Ruff Park in Hopkinsville. After a  brief practice on Friday, it was time for the kids to put all of their hard work to the test.

After many races in each of the divisions, three were crowned first-place winners.

In the Super Kids Division, Aldon Odoms repeated as champion with Mason Gannon finishing in second place.

In the Stock Division, Reese Jones drove to the championship with Tyreik Merritt finishing in second place and Lewis Conrad in third.

In the Super Stock Division, Will Rader was the champion with True Menser finishing in second, and Charles Cayce in third.

Alan Rader won the Masters Division with Audrey Rains second, and Justyss White third.

All four of these champions will be making the journey to Akron, Ohio, next month to compete in the National Soapbox Derby.

Numerous families took part in this local tradition, organized by the Hopkinsville Kiwanis Club, which allows for young people to learn about the physics of racing all while having fun.
