A Christian County man was charged with assaulting a woman and child during a disturbance on North Main Street in Hopkinsville Thursday morning.

Hopkinsville Police say 31-year-old James Overton got into a fight with his girlfriend over making the kids breakfast and hit her in the head, threw her to the ground, then dragged her back into the home before putting her into a chokehold.

He then reportedly grabbed a child by the back of the neck and dragged them back inside the home.

Police say he admitted to having one drink of Fireball whiskey before the fight. He was arrested and charged with second-degree strangulation and two counts of fourth-degree assault.
