Gas prices started their trend downward in west central Kentucky this week, falling two cents per gallon lower to $3.23.
That’s according to the AAA East Central Gas Price report, which notes average prices were $3.25 over the last seven days, and $4.66 a gallon this time last year.
In Caldwell County, it’s $2.99 in Fredonia and $3.24 in Princeton.
In Calloway County, it’s between $3.02 and $3.05 in Murray.
In Christian County, it’s $2..95 all over Hopkinsville and $3.08 near Oak Grove.
In Crittenden County, it’s $3.15 in Marion.
In Livingston County, it’s $3.15 in Salem, $3.19 in Ledbetter, $3.21 in Smithland and $3.35 in Grand Rivers.
In Lyon County, it’s between $3.10 and $3.39 around Eddyville.
In Trigg County, it’s $3.19 inside Cadiz, and $3.38 in Montgomery.
And in Todd County, it’s $3.23 in Elkton and Guthrie.
Regionally, it’s $3.37 in Bowling Green, $3.07 in Elizabethtown, $3.62 in Louisville, $3.00 in Owensboro and $3.13 in Paducah.
A surge in travel along the Memorial Day weekend could’ve driven prices per gallon higher, and yet gas fell three cents nationally to $3.55. The cost of crude oil, which accounts for more than half of the cost of a gallon of gas, has been staying in the low $70s per barrel, and even dipped into the $60’s last week. This drop in crude prices has contributed to lower gas prices, and today’s national average is a penny lower than a month ago and $1.29 less than a year ago.
At the close of Wednesday’s formal trading session, West Texas Intermediate decreased by $1.37 to settle at $68.09.
