Unemployment rates fell in all nine Pennyrile counties from March to April with the 2023 numbers also tracking below 2022.
The jobless rate in Christian County dropped from 4.5% in March to 4.1% in April. A year ago, the jobless rate was 4.6%.
Numbers released by the Kentucky Center for Statistics said Christian County’s labor force was 25,333 with 1,037 actively seeking work. The labor force numbers are up 494 people from April of last year.
In Trigg County, April’s jobless rate was 3.5%, a drop from 4.6% recorded in March. Last year, the April rate was 3.9%. The labor force in April consisted of 6,117 with 216 people actively seeking work. The labor force showed an increase of 144 people over the past year.
The rates in the Pennyrile region ranged from 2.5% in Caldwell County to 5.1% in Muhlenberg County.
Statewide, unemployment rates fell in 78 counties between April 2022 and April 2023, rose in 25, and stayed the same in 17 counties.
Woodford County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the commonwealth at 2.4%. It was followed by Caldwell, Carroll, and Oldham counties at 2.5% each and eight others at 2.6%.
Magoffin County recorded the state’s highest unemployment rate at 8.5% with nine other eastern Kentucky counties comprising the ten highest rates.
Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends rather than actually to count people working.
