Fourshee Building Supply Closes Doors

Fourshee Building Supply in Cadiz is closed after serving the Cadiz-Trigg County community for 70 years.

A sign was posted on the front door of the lumber and building supply store Monday morning noting the closure. The business is owned by Paul and Anthony Fourshee.

Paul Fourshee said he and Anthony attributed the decision to close to the current business climate that has resulted in difficulty finding employees to staff the business.

According to the Trigg County History Book Fourshee Building Supply was opened in 1953 by Tommy Fourshee. After a layoff at Camp Campbell where Fourshee was working, he set up a workshop in his basement and manufactured windows for Woodruff Land Company. When people began to ask Tommy Fourshee to oversee the construction of their homes, he formed Fourshee Building Contractor.

From the original location on the corner of Lincoln Street and Lafayette Street where the Trigg County High School Football Stadium and parking currently stand, Fourshee moved the business to East Cadiz on Highway 68 in the old Woodruff Warehouse.

During the recession in the 1980s, Tommy discontinued residential construction and began concentrating on retail sales and commercial construction. When Tommy retired in 1991, the company was incorporated and acquired by his sons Anthony, John, and Paul Fourshee. Tommy passed away in 2010. John and his wife Vicki passed away on an anniversary trip in Idaho in 2021.
