Until further notice and beginning at 4 PM Friday, three Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation restroom facilities will be closed to the public.
This includes the Joe Mumford Park Pavilion, the 2nd Street Park Building and the DeBow Recreational Complex Building — all of which have been victims of recent vandalism.
Security measure have been put in place to minimize these acts, and yet these three facilities — according to officials — “continue to be abused.”
In order to prevent additional vandalism and inappropriate use, these restrooms will now only be open for reserved events.
Toby Hudson, Parks and Recreation Superintendent, called the measure “unfortunate,” because the “actions of a few” will remove the use of these facilities from general community members. Hudson noted, however, that the vandalism had become excessive — to the point where closure was “the best option to protect public property.”
If one suspects or witnesses vandalism of park restrooms and/or facilities, call the Hopkinsville Police Department.
