Gas Prices Continue Downward Trickle In West Kentucky

Motorists in west central Kentucky can enjoy another small decline in gas prices this week, down six cents on the average to $3.16 per gallon.

According to the AAA East Central Gas Price Report, averages hovered around $3.22 in the last seven days, and nearly $4.20 per gallon a year ago.

Per gasbuddy.com, a number of west Kentucky counties are experiencing this dip.

In Caldwell County, it’s $2.99 near Fredonia and close to $3.30 in Princeton.
In Calloway County, it’s $2.85 near Hazel and around $2.89 in Murray.
In Christian County, it’s $2.98 through Oak Grove and $2.99 in Hopkinsville.
In Crittenden County, it’s between $3.02 and $3.05 in Marion.
In Hopkins County, it’s anywhere from $2.83 to $2.89 in Hanson.
In Livingston County, it’s $2.96 at Ledbetter, $3.06 at Smithland and $3.19 through Grand Rivers.

The national average for a gallon of gas remained steady over this past week at $3.53. Demand for gasoline is higher as the country approaches late spring and early summer, but the lower cost of crude oil is limiting gas prices. This week’s national average is 13 cents less than a month ago, and 97 cents less than a year ago.

Data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) attests this demand grew substantially from 8.62 to 9.30 million barrels per day over the last seven.

At the close of last Wednesday’s formal trading session, West Texas Intermediate decreased by $1.15 to settle at $72.56 per barrel. Uncertainty surrounds the market, as U.S. debt ceiling negotiations seem throttled.
