Mechanic Arrested On Several Felony Charges

A Gracey man was arrested Wednesday on several charges in connection to work he was paid to have done to a vehicle that was found badly damaged.

Christian County Sheriff’s deputies say the owner of Dad’s Garage 29-year-old Kevin Okum was paid to fix some mechanical issues and bodywork on a 2007 GMC Sierra.

He reportedly kept the truck for approximately 4 months and continue to give the owner excuses on why he could not pick up the vehicle.

When the owner went to the shop, he reportedly found the truck to have standing water in the door panels and the interior soaked in water due to the windows being down. The engine and axle were rusted along with scratches in the paint.

Deputies say Okum told the owner of the truck he would file a claim with his insurance and he would be paid for the vehicle but he had no proof to show he had done any of that.

Okum was arrested and charged with deceptive business practices, first-degree criminal mischief, theft by failure to make required disposition of property, and theft by deception.
