Adjustments Could Be Coming For Dollar General In Cadiz

Two looming projects for the city proved to be hot topics during Tuesday night’s Cadiz-Trigg County Planning Commission: a Dollar General Store planned for Jefferson Street just outside of town, and a potential new car wash location.

In regard to the planned Dollar General facility, member Chappell Wilson said a May 18 hearing is planned for the community’s Board of Zoning Adjustments, in order to address the need of fewer parking spaces — despite the location’s newest designation of light industrial.

Its commercial status, Wilson said, asks for there to be one parking spot per 150 square feet or so, which in theory would equate to 70 or 80 slots for cars and trucks.

Not only is that not necessary, but the lot itself is less than three acres, and Wilson noted the company has filed an application for variance.

Wilson further noted the board rarely convenes, and its seven members are pulled together only when a summons is needed.

With Commission Chairman Todd Wallace out of town, Mike Heffington assumed the role Tuesday, and asked Wilson about the potential for road architecture to change in this area. It was mentioned in several public hearings that the rise on Kentucky 139 already caused trouble coming into Cadiz, while the SHIFT Plan from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet possesses high marks to replace the junction of Jefferson Street and Cerulean Road at some point in the next five years.

Meanwhile, Heffington confirmed some unnamed business officials remain sincerely interested in drafting and constructing a car wash on the east side of Cadiz near Pennyrile Rural Electric.

However, another zoning concern could be at stake.

The Planning Commission meets at 6 PM the fourth Tuesday of each month, inside the Renaissance Center.
