Special Prosecutor Coming In Sharpe Street Murder Case

Charged with the murder of Adrian Acree, Hopkinsville’s Cortez Hairston Jr. should have a special prosecutor the next time he’s in court.

During Wednesday’s pre-trial conference in Christian County Circuit Court, defense attorney Ted Shouse said he understood why newly-appointed Commonwealth’s Attorney Stephanie Bolen had need to recuse.

Hairston Jr. was the third person charged in connection to Acree’s murder. A shooting on Jones Street, near the intersection of Sharpe Street, led to his death. Police indicate they were contacted around 1 o’clock that October 26, 2021, morning under reports of a man assaulted and a body in the roadway.

Jaila Sherrod and Dekorian Daniel, both of Hopkinsville, were arrested April 5, 2022, and charged with complicity to murder — as reported planners of Acree’s death. Hairston Jr., meanwhile, turned himself in April 14, 2022, and was booked with a charge of murder and possession of a firearm by convicted felon.

Hairston Jr., Sherrod and Daniel will all be heard again in pre-trial March 27.
