Quarles To Face Special Prosecution As May Trial Approaches

With his trial set for mid May, Hopkinsville’s Tavaris Quarles will be facing new prosecution in the coming weeks.

During Wednesday’s motion hour in Christian County Circuit Court, Judge John Atkins made note of this under recommendations from newly-appointed Commonwealth’s Attorney Stephanie Bolen — who takes over in the place of Rick Boling.

Defense attorney Sands Chewning also argued for a motion in bond reduction — something Judge John Atkins said could be taken once new counsel was in place.

Quarles is charged with the May 2022 fatality of 33-year-old Christopher Mumford, who was found in front of an East 4th Street home with a gunshot wound to his head.

In early December 2022, Chewning and Boling both appeared before Atkins, noting the Commonwealth was awaiting more information before bringing Quarles back to the grand jury.

Quarles’ next appearance was set for 8:30 AM, March 27.
