KYTC Announces Tree Removal Closure For US 68

Officials with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet have detailed plans to close a portion of U.S. 68 Business in Cadiz Monday and Tuesday, as tree removal and hauling begins.

Through traffic in the Rainbow Hill area between KY 274 (Rockcastle Road) near the 1-mile marker and KY 139 (South Road) near the 2-mile marker need to be prepared for other travel routes, as damaged trees and debris from recent high winds are swept from the right-of-way.

This is an area immediately west of downtown Cadiz.

The closure starts at 8 AM Monday, immediately following the bus run from Trigg County Schools. And it will remain closed until 2 PM each day.

There will be no marked detour.

Local access will still be maintained for property owners in this area. Motorists should self-detour along KY 139 (South Road) to U.S. 68.

Hundreds of trees were recently blown down, following a series of weather events that involved straight-line winds clocked and sustained at 60-to-70 miles per hour. Intermittent gusts of 50 miles per hour were also common.

KYTC and utility crews have been hard at work across west Kentucky cutting up downed trees and limbs, and pushing them to roadsides in preparation for transport.
