Cadiz City Council approved a resolution to begin work toward a sewer improvement project during a special called meeting Monday night.
The meeting was changed to Monday night because Cadiz Mayor Todd King and some council members were scheduled to be out of town Tuesday night. Although City Clerk Connie Allen said she attempted to notify the media of the meeting change Friday, the News Edge received no notice of the meeting. Allen cited a new copier and fax machine at city hall as the possible cause for the problem. The lack of notice issue comes after the January meeting when the News Edge learned public comments were no longer included on the Cadiz City Council agenda during regular meetings.
Allen reported to the News Edge after the meeting, council members approved the resolution that will start the process to loan money to make needed improvements in the Cadiz sewer line behind Trigg County Schools. Allen says the resolution will allow the city to apply for federal funding to continue moving the project forward.
Council approved the appointment of Leida Tackett and Ginger Brame Brown to the Housing Authority of Cadiz Board of Directors. Council also approved the appointment of Tammy Groves to the Cadiz-Trigg County Board of Adjustments.
Council members also expressed appreciation to the Cadiz Public Works Department and Director Craig Oakley for their recent efforts in clearing city roads during the ice storm that hit the region on January 31 and February 1.
Additionally, council member Susan Bryant expressed concern that the proposed Dollar General store on Highway 139/Jefferson Street could decrease property values in the area.
