After a really large spike last week, average gas prices in west central Kentucky opened seven cents lower this week — down from $3.18 to $3.11.
This week last year, gas prices were $3.09 per gallon.
As of Monday afternoon, it was $3.14 to $3.19 in Caldwell County, $3.09 to $3.37 in Lyon County, $3.19 to $3.39 in Trigg County, $2.92 to $3.14 in Christian County and from $2.97 to $3.19 in Todd County.
The national average for a gallon also fell this week, down three cents to $3.47. Last week’s choice by OPEC+ to keep current production levels, while not making any cuts, helped produce lower oil prices — which today account for nearly 60% of the cost for a singular gallon.
Monday’s national average is 18 cents more than a month ago, and four cents more than a year ago.
Gas demand last week rose from 8.14 million to 8.49 million barrels per day, while total domestic gasoline stocks increased to nearly 234.6 million barrels. Rising gas demand was met with improved supply growth, allowing for trimmed prices.
West Texas Intermediate closed last Friday down $2.49 per share at $73.39. Ongoing market concerns include the possibility of a “recession,” which would bring further decline.
