Hopkinsville Man Enters Plea In Drug Overdose Death Case

A Hopkinsville man charged with manslaughter in connection to a drug overdose death has entered a plea in Christian County Circuit Court as part of a negotiated agreement with the Commonwealth.

Jeremy Ryan Smith and public defender Doug Moore along with Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling appeared before Judge Andrew Self Wednesday afternoon. Judge Self recited Smith’s plea agreement involving an Alford plea on charges of one count of second-degree manslaughter and trafficking Carfentanil or Fentanyl derivatives.

click to download audioSmith’s May trial date was also vacated by Judge Self, who set final sentencing for April 5th.

According to the indictment, Smith caused the death of a subject identified only as “S.G.” on May 8th by distributing a controlled substance that led to the individual’s death.
