Officials with Hopkinsville Community College will be hosting an open house for its HOPFAME efforts, set from 4:30-6:30 PM Tuesday, January 24, in the Emerging Technologies Building on campus.
It will serve as an informational session for individuals and families interested in careers revolving around regional advanced manufacturing, and would be available to begin training courses in Fall 2023.
Known as the Hopkinsville Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education, HOPFAME serves as a partnership involving nearly 20 regional manufacturers, educational institutions and community organizations — who have the purpose of implementing apprenticeship-style training, in order to create a pipeline of highly-skilled local workers.
HOPFAME participants attend classes two days a week, while working at a sponsoring manufacturer for a competitive wage at a minimum of 24 hours.
The work-and-learn format pivots students from the classroom to the real world, and those who complete a five-semester program earn an associate in applied science degree — often without cumbersome student loan debts.
This program also addresses common workplace behavior issues: attendance, communication, diligence, teamwork, interpersonal relations and more.
If students wish, the program can translate to full-time positions, while other graduates can seek education opportunities toward a bachelor’s degree for engineering.
The application deadline for this year’s cohort is March 1.
