After being closed two of the last three years, Tie-Breaker Aquatic Center will open for its 16th season on Saturday, May 27.

Programs coordinator Toby Hudson announced to the News Edge that all systems were go for the water park to open Memorial Day weekend.

COVID-19 restrictions by the state forced the 2020 season to be shuttered. It reopened in 2021 with nearly 50,000 visitors going through the turnstiles.

However, heavy repairs to the park forced its closure for the 2022 season. City Grounds Maintenance Superintendent Blane Ezell said a leak in the section of zero entry underneath the pool needed repair which required the removal of the pool liner and concrete in that area with an estimated cost of $375,000.

Improvements made prior to the 2021 season included a new concessionaire and improved lazy area features.

The parks and recreation department estimates that 70 percent of the park’s visitors are from outside Christian County, according to zip code data collected at the admission gate.

The park’s season usually runs through Labor Day.
