Pennyrile Electric Clarifies New Second Meter Tax

Pennyrile Electric customers with more than one electric meter are receiving letters concerning a change in the state tax law passed by the Kentucky General Assembly.

The letter references a change made by House Bill 8 that calls for the taxation of a second dwelling or residence with a separate electric meter. The letter also contains a form that allows customers to apply for an exemption from the new tax in certain situations.

Pennyrile Electric’s Vice President of Member Services Brent Gilkey says not all of the cooperative’s customers will be affected.
