Hopkinsville Attorney Michael Thompson is throwing his name in the pool for the District Four Christian County Board of Education seat. Thompson tells the News Edge he has submitted his application for district four vacancy created by the resignation by Mike Walker. Thompson has been practicing law for thirteen years.

Thompson says he chose to file for the opening because he thinks the board needs someone from outside of the teaching profession because much of the work of the school board is business related. Thompson says he will bring experience to the board as a small business owner if he is selected.

Thompson added he grew up in Christian County, attending South Christian Elementary and Hopkinsville Middle and High Schools. He adds both of his children attended public school in Christian County and his wife was formerly a teacher in the Christian County School District, but is now employed with another school district.

The Christian County Board of Education began seeking applications for the vacancy after accepting the resignation of Mike Walker Monday, November 28. The applicant chosen by the board of education will serve until a special election can be held in November 2023.
