Two Shuttles Coming For 46th Annual Country Ham Festival

With the 46th Annual Trigg County Country Ham Festival less than two weeks away, the procurement of shuttle transportation options for local and regional visitors has been a concern.

Wednesday afternoon, some of those concerns were assuaged — as the Ham Fest Committee confirmed help is on the way.

Barbie Johnson, Cadiz City Clerk, said that Frankie Thomas — president and CEO of MedTransit in Hopkinsville — will once again be offering services for the highly-anticipated weekend of October 14.

Johnson said those transportation costs are going to come under $1,500, which is well within the budget, but there is brimming hope and expectation that in future festivals, a larger fleet will be available. The county celebration brings in no less than 20,000 people annually, and many visitors require the assistance from parking spots in the area.

In other Ham Festival news:

— Ham Fest T-shirts of all sizes are available for purchase, with the price being trimmed from $15 to $12.

— Beth Sumner, membership director of the Trigg County Chamber of Commerce, said tickets for the October 13 Ham Fest Kick-Off Breakfast remain available.

— Johnson and Renaissance On Main Director Janelle Nichols also said more than $30,000 has generously come in from local and regional sponsors. Of that total, $20,000 was provided by Cadiz-Trigg Tourism, and $5,000 was from leading supporter Wabash, who have committed to be lead sponsors for this and the next two years.

— Johnson further noted that a permanent Ham Festival website, under the control of the Ham Festival Committee and its associates, will be reviewed at a further meeting.
