Greenway Rail Trail Bridge Closed Until Further Notice

City officials with Hopkinsville have announced that the Greenway Rail Trail pedestrian bridge crossing Lafayette Road and Country Club Lane is closed until further notice — pending a visit from structural engineers planned for Wednesday morning.

Cracks in surrounding stonework were observed and reported Tuesday afternoon, which has led to this precautionary closure for public safety.

Any decision surrounding the reopening of the bridge will not be made until Hopkinsville officials meet with these structural engineers.

In the immediacy, frequent visitors are being asked to observe barricades and limit trail use to those sections either north or south of the pedestrian bridge.

A quarter-mile in length, the bridge was opened in late 2020 as a section of Phase 2 for the Greenway Rail Trail Project.

The entire trail coveres nearly five miles, from the north end of downtown Hopkinsville to the Foston Chapel Road southern trail head.
