Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Charges In Hopkinsville

A traffic stop for a seat belt violation on McLean Avenue in Hopkinsville led to drug charges Tuesday afternoon.

Hopkinsville Police say they stopped 18-year-old Letrevion Washington for not wearing a seatbelt and he was not able to show a driver’s license or proof of insurance during the stop.

After a search of the vehicle, two handguns were reportedly found one loaded with hollow-point ammunition along with marijuana and a drum magazine for a .40 caliber gun.

Washington and his two juvenile passengers reportedly denied owning the drugs.

Washington was arrested and charged with using restricted ammunition during a felony (no shots), possession of marijuana, and second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor. He was also cited for not wearing a seatbelt, failure to produce an insurance card, and instructional permit violation.
