Hopkinsville Council Takes First Steps To Set Tax Rate

Hopkinsville City Council took the first step Tuesday night to set the real estate and personal property tax rates for the 2022 fiscal year.

Council members heard the first reading of the tax rates by City Clerk Chrissy Fletcher during Tuesday’s council meeting.

click to download audioThe ordinance passed on first reading by a vote of 8 to 2. If approved following the second reading the tax rates will drop to 22.5 cents per $100 of assessed value, which will be the lowest tax rate in several years.

Meanwhile, council passed a bond ordinance to help clear the way for the location of the proposed Ascend Elements electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Christian County.

Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch recognized Hopkinsville Fire Chief Steve Futrell and Parks and Recreation Director Tab Brockman who were recently honored by the professional organizations they are a part of.

Mayor Lynch recognized Clayton Fears who served as Mayor for a Day Tuesday. And council heard from Danielle Renshaw about Ruffled Willow, which is the small business she owns that specializes in event planning.

And council heard concerns from a Hopkinsville resident who claims to be having trouble getting his landlord to make needed repairs in his apartment.
