Alexander, Magistrates To Review Trigg Rescue Building

In October of 2021, Trigg County Judge-Executive Hollis Alexander and his magistrates discussed — at length — what the next steps needed to be for a proud Trigg County Rescue organization, but one without a viable home.

Its current location, inside the old Bronco Springs building at 1892 Canton Pike Road, lies in a wretched state of disrepair. And a new facility, perhaps located near the county’s road garage near US 68/80, would be a major financial commitment.

Stuck between this rock and hard place, Alexander announced during Tuesday’s fiscal court meeting an open invitation to the current location for a facility review of the rescue building, scheduled at 4 PM September 13.

This invitation stands for magistrates, rescue members, media and/or concerned citizens.

Magistrate Barry Littlejohn had a simple, but strong, question about the matter.

To say Trigg Rescue stays busy with its efforts might be an understatement. During the weekend of August 19, its officials remained vigilant during the strenuous search of a possible drowned man at Lake Barkley Marina.

That’s just one high-profile example of their work, and only highlights a need for a proper headquarters — whether in an entirely new facility, or one that’s been dramatically lifted in some way.

In other court news:

— Magistrates swiftly and unanimously approved a second reading of the 2022-23 tax rate ordinance for the county, which includes a two-cent reduction of the ambulance tax (down from 11 cents to 9). County real estate is 8 cents, motor vehicles are 9.4 cents and watercraft is 10 cents.

— Magistrates also approved the surplus of a 2016 Farmall 100C for trade-in value against the cost of a 2022 Farmall, bringing its price tag down from north of $45,000 to north of $25,000. The surplus of a 4-in-1 and a Drag Queen, both major arena machines, will be used to assist on the price of a new 8009 Black Widow Arena Tool.
