Long-Term Recovery Groups Handling Next Phase Of WKY Relief Fund

Another wave of the Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund is headed to those impacted by December’s destruction.

During his weekly “Team Kentucky” update Thursday, Governor Andy Beshear said that another $12 million of this massive, worldwide contribution will be doled to those who still need help with basic essentials.

Beshear said that these funds will be distributed through local long-term recovery groups — who are on the ground and can see the needs of those still piecing together some normalcy amidst the rubble.

With the promise of helping acquire things like furniture, vehicles and appliances, the Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund now has more than $41 million if its $52 million earmarked and spent in bolstering individuals and families needing assistance.

More than 150,000 people and organizations have donated to the fund, and as of Thursday, more than $200 million combined in federal, state and this relief fund have been invested in the counties who bore the brunt of these storms.
