Man Charged In West 18th Street Shooting

A Hopkinsville man has been charged in connection to a shooting on West 18th Street that severely injured another man Thursday night.

Hopkinsville Police say a man showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound to his abdomen after a fight that happened on West 18th Street at South Main Street just after 6 pm.

25-year-old Jonathan Amerson reportedly got into a fight with a man and shot him then fled the area before police arrived.

The man was flown to a Nashville hospital with severe injuries.

Multiple shell casings were found on the sidewalk on West 18th Street. Police temporarily blocked off the road as they collected evidence.

Amerson was arrested and charged with first-degree assault, tampering with physical evidence, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
