Christian County Grand Jury Returns Indictments For Assault

Three people charged in separate assaults were among several indictments returned by the Christian County Grand Jury Friday morning.

36-year old Isaac Benjamin, of Hopkinsville, was indicted on a first-degree assault charge in connection to an altercation on January 3 in Pembroke.

Hopkinsville Police reported the altercation occurred at an apartment complex on South Virginia Street. Police said Benjamin hit a Pembroke woman in the head, causing severe injuries. The victim was flown to a Nashville hospital for treatment. Benjamin was taken into custody and booked into the Christian County Jail.

A true bill was returned for 43-year old Joshua Aaron Rush, of Hopkinsville, on a charge of first-degree assault in connection to a stabbing on January 28.

Christian County Sheriff’s deputies said Rush stabbed another man in the ear during an altercation in the 4000 block of Madisonville Road. Rush was reportedly found at a home nearby and taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment of injuries. Rush was arrested and lodged in the Christian County Jail.

The grand jury indicted 23-year old Kayla Summer Knight, of Hopkinsville, on charges of first-degree attempted assault and second-degree disorderly conduct.

The charges are from October 26 when Hopkinsville Police said Knight became angry at a cashier and began yelling at her. She allegedly slung a drink she was holding across the counter and was escorted out of the business. Police reported Knight then got into her car and tried to hit the employee. Knight was sought by police for over two months and was taken into custody in January.

34-year old Natasha Nepearl Smith, of Hopkinsville, was indicted on charges of second-degree assault, theft of identity without consent and possession of drug paraphernalia.
