United Way Of The Pennyrile Approaching Fundraising Goals

This year’s United Way of the Pennyrile fundraising campaign, themed as “Baking A Difference,” could be wrapping up on a really high note.

During Tuesday’s Christian County Fiscal Court meeting, Pennyrile President and CEO Betsy Bond said while she didn’t want to release the total efforts just yet, she did confirm that the campaign will crest above last year’s totals — which came close to $620,000.

She noted several outstanding donations remain to be collected, and financial gifts are still being accepted in these closing weeks.

Furthermore, Bond said there is a hope and an expectation to begin developing more long-term recovery groups in the Pennyrile area — particularly after two years of COVID-19 concerns throttling growth.

A large gift from Rogers Group brought only more hope and expectations for this to happen.

Bond said one of the things that sets the United Way of the Pennyrile apart from other non-profit agencies is its funding process.

Neither she, nor her board, predetermine where these donations and worker contributions go unless the donations are clearly specified, and as such, Bond said there is a need for local volunteers and community leaders to spend time on some up-and-coming panel review sessions — in which non-profits spend time stating their cases for United Way’s financial arm.

During the September 2, 2021 “Baking A Difference” Kickoff Breakfast, campaign co-chairs Brooke Jung and Dan Kemp shared that this year’s fundraising goal was $750,000.

For more information about volunteering for these panels, Bond is asking people to visit the office at 1110 S. Main Street in Hopkinsville or call (270) 886-8171.

A campaign celebration was supposed to occur in early January, before a rise in regional COVID-19 cases forced postponement.
