Hopkinsville Fire/EMS Total Runs Up 24 Percent In 2021

At the Hopkinsville Committee of the Whole meeting Thursday night, Chief Steve Futrell reported that 2021 was the busiest year in the history of the Hopkinsville Fire Department.

He said the total run volume by the fire department in 2021 was up 24%, mostly attributed to rescue and emergency calls.

click to download audioChief Futrell said they responded to 667 COVID-related calls last year, with an increased cost of medical supplies that were labeled as COVID of $49,000. He added they are currently working with the finance department to get reimbursement from FEMA.

The chief said he’s excited that the total years of service within the Fire/EMS Division have improved over the last three years.

click to download audioDuring new business at the meeting, the committee voted unanimously to forward to the city council a request from Chief Futrell to purchase two ancillary vehicles to replace three vehicles that have been taken out of service.
