Grand Jury Indicts Two Hopkinsville Men On Assault Charges

The Christian County Grand Jury returned several indictments Friday including charges for assault in connection to separate incidents involving a shooting and stabbing.

A true bill was returned for 49-year old Raymond Wayne Brown, of Hopkinsville, on a charge of first-degree assault in connection to a shooting in the 13000 block of Greenville Road on December 22, 2021.

According to the Christian County Sheriff’s Department, Brown was involved in an altercation with another man over returning a house key. During the altercation, Brown is accused of firing shots with one shot hitting the man in the arm. He then reportedly fired six rounds from a rifle and three more from a handgun during the altercation. Deputies said the shooting victim showed up at Jennie Stuart Medical Center just before midnight and was then transferred to a Nashville hospital for treatment.

42-year old Benito Bautista, of Hopkinsville, was indicted on a first-degree assault charge in the stabbing of Eric Orzco on December 25, 2021.

Christian County Sheriff’s deputies say Orzco was stabbed in the stomach several times while he was sitting in his vehicle. Deputies said Bautista’s wife stated she was going through a divorce and she had been seeing Orzco for a while. When Orzco arrived to pick up her up, the two men reportedly got into an altercation that led to the stabbing. Orzco was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment.
