State Police Release Some Details in Trigg Infant Death

Kentucky State Police have released more details concerning the indictment against a Trigg County woman charged with the death of her child.

As previously reported by the News Edge, 28-year-old Shaylynn Curtis was indicted last Wednesday by a Trigg County grand jury on a murder charge.  She had previously been charged with abuse of a corpse stemming from the October 26 death of her 5-month-old. Police said she wrapped the child in a blanket and placed him in the attic of her home on East Adams Mill Road. The child had reportedly been dead for nearly 24 hours.

The police report further noted that Curtis made no attempts to call 911 or seek any medical assistance for the infant. Law enforcement arrived only following phone calls from friends of Curtis, seeking a wellness check on the child.

In new details released by state police, they said a medical examiner’s report that was finalized on December 15 said the child’s death was due to acute methamphetamine intoxication.

While not specifically mentioned by state police, there have been recorded deaths of infants in the United States who died from acute meth intoxication after breastfeeding.

Curtis remains lodged In the Christian County Jail under an upgraded $1 million bond. Her next court appearance is February 8.
