Through Prowells, Lamms Donate To Dawson Springs

A donation from the Lamms, of Ohio, went to the Prowells and then out to Dawson Springs. But the families were connected in a unique way.

In 2011, Fredonia’s Matt and Angie Prowell thought nothing of a business partnership with Beck’s Hybrids. Headquartered through Indianapolis, the Prowells are farmers — and farmers need seed.

But in buying so much product, Beck’s customarily repays their top customers with a yearly trip abroad. Ten years ago, that trip was to Cancun, Mexico.

It was the Prowells first-such trip, and an easy getaway to accept.

While at Moon Palace, the pair met the Lamms from Ohio — Dave and Stacie — who had purchased tickets for the trip through a cancer benefit auction. And as couples do, they had fun together. Enjoyed volleyball. Lounging by the pool. Grabbing dinner. Leisure.

At the time, the Lamms had three young girls in their family.

When the trip ended, the couples went their separate ways. Life happened. Ten years passed by without a blink. The families would exchange social media messages, pleasantries. The Lamms would add two more daughters along the way.

On December 10, the Prowells were spared tornado damage — but could only watch as friends in Dawson Springs and Princeton lost homes and sometimes more.

The Prowells, like everyone else in west Kentucky and beyond, jump into recovery efforts.

One afternoon just before Christmas, Stacie messaged Angie through Facebook. The Lamms wanted to help. They needed an address to mail supplies.

A small box arrived to the Prowell residence with new clothes for children. Stacie told Angie more was on the way.

Five total shipments, it was, full of Under Armour sweatsuits. And all because two couples met 10 years ago at a resort in Cancun, Mexico.

Noting Princeton’s recovery efforts have been going well, Prowell said she took the new clothes to Dawson Springs — mainly because of great needs.

The kindness of five Lamm sisters and daughters, combined with a happenstance relationship, can perhaps serve as a Christmas holiday miracle — and a lesson on kindness without expectation.
