COVID-19 cases in Christian County are on the rise as the Omicron variant becomes more widespread across the nation.

The Christian County Health Department reported 301 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, nearly triple the number from a week ago. That represents the largest increase since September 16.

There are 394 active cases in the county, also the most since mid-September.

Active cases are the most prevalent in the 22 to 59 age group at 63-percent and the 21 and under age group at 19-percent.

Earlier this week, the health department announced it will not be able to contact each positive individual to conduct a case interview, contact trace, or provide quarantine letters due to the expected increase in case numbers.

The health department will be closed for the remainder of this week and no testing will be available until next week.
