Mayfield Continues Recovery Efforts (w/PHOTOS)

While volunteers have started to pour into Mayfield, the damage will take months of cleanup.

During Saturday afternoon’s news conference at the CFSB’s Graves County Emergency Management staging area, Governor Andy Beshear noted 18 of the state’s 120 counties sustained damage during Friday night’s violent outburst of tornadic activity.

More than 1,000 homes were destroyed in the homes, with Mayfield, Dawson Springs and Bowling Green among the hardest hit areas of the Commonwealth.

In what could soon be declared a “major disaster” at the federal level, Secretary for Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell were in Graves County Saturday to help assess damages — which through one tornado span all the way from Jonesboro, Arkansas to Beaver Dam.

Beshear noted that it’s believed at least three other serious-damaging tornadoes spawned from Friday’s storm system.
