Trial Date Vacated For College Street Murder Suspect

During a hearing Wednesday in Christian County Circuit Court, the March trial date was vacated in the murder case of a Hopkinsville woman accused of shooting a man on College Street earlier this year.

Kachelle Isbell is accused of fatally shooting 33-year old Anthony Johnson in the neck in the early morning hours of April 3rd. Police say Isbell was located at the scene of the shooting with a gun and admitted to shooting Johnson.

Isbell and special prosecutor Tim Cocanougher appeared virtually before Judge Andrew Self with public defender Douglas Moore appearing in the courtroom.

Due to the recent death of Isbell’s defense attorney, John Stewart, Isbell explained to Judge Self she still plans to retain private counsel and she’s waiting for Stewart’s family to let her know who she needs to contact to represent her.

Public Defender Douglas Moore, who said he was operating on Stewart’s behalf for this hearing, said he and Cocanougher do not believe the March 7th trial date is feasible due to the circumstances.

Judge Self scheduled another hearing for a status conference on December 22 at 1:00 p.m.
