The Dollar General Literacy Foundation has awarded the Hopkinsville Christian County Imagination Library a $2,000 grant to support youth literacy initiatives.
It is a local grant award that’s part of the more than $3 million doled out to more than 750 non-profit organizations, libraries and schools in the 46-state Dollar General service area.
DeeAnna Sova, HCCPL executive director, noted the Imagination Library — now in its ninth year for the community — serves more than 3,400 children each month, delivering books monthly to children from birth to 5 years old.
Essentially a book club for developing readers, the program is free for participants, but costs around $25 a year to provide the materials.
The Dollar General Literacy Foundation supports initiatives that help others improve lives through literacy and education, and since 1993, the foundation has awarded more than $200 million in grants to non-profits — assisting more than 14 million individuals to take their first steps into reading.
