HPD Officer Announces Run for Christian County Jailer

Adam Smith

Local law enforcement veteran Adam Smith has announced he is running for Christian County Jailer in the November 2022 election.

The lifelong Hopkinsville resident — who has served with the Hopkinsville Police Department for the last 12 years — says he is running for jailer because he has seen the city’s need for dedicated community servants and the critical role they have played in the community.

As part of his campaign, Smith says he intends to show Christian County residents how pivotal of a role the county’s jail can play in the success of the community. Smith says he believes jails are more than just a holding facility. He adds they should be a place where offenders are held accountable but the jail should also be a place of rehabilitation, a place to grow, a place to overcome setbacks and learn how to become a productive citizen. Smith indicates as Christian County Jailer, he promises to have a tireless demand to have the most secure jail in Kentucky, a strategic approach to having offenders become productive citizens, a focus on utilizing the resources for the jail to greater benefit the county through community service projects, and use tax dollars appropriately.

Smith has served with the Hopkinsville Police Department since 2010 — first as a patrol officer and detective — then as a sergeant and lieutenant. In February 2020, he was promoted to captain and indicates he is responsible for leading a team of 40, along with planning and managing an over $1 million budget. Smith is also a small business owner. Smith says he intends to bring his experience and knowledge from the front lines of law enforcement to help combat recidivism.
