Applications Being Accepted for Christian County Citizen’s Sheriff’s Academy

The Christian County Sheriff’s Office has slots open for this year’s citizen’s sheriff’s academy that will begin next month.

Because of the success of last year’s academy, Sheriff Tyler DeArmond says two nights have been added to this year’s program.

The 12-hour program will be focused on educating students on the day-to-day job of a deputy sheriff in Christian County. The classes will be held on Tuesdays from 6:00-8:00 pm, beginning on October 12th and running through November 16th.

Applicants will be educated on the duties of the sheriff’s office, including traffic stops, equipment, law enforcement tactics, simulated court sessions, and investigative techniques.

De’Armond said the academy will be limited to 24 participants and will be free to Christian County residents. He added applications are being accepted on a first-come, first-serve. Participants must be at least 18 years of age, be a resident of Christian County, and undergo a background check.

The applications can be picked up at the sheriff’s office at 701 West 7th Street during normal business hours or downloaded at the sheriff’s office website.
