More than 46 volunteers from the Peacekeeper Battalion, a branch of the 716th Military Police Battalion at Fort Campbell, arrived in Waverly this weekend to assist residents in cleaning up the damages left by the recent flooding that destroyed several homes.

Local Army officials say the Peacekeepers used the opportunity to give back to the community in many ways. For example, they helped with clearing river beds, removing soaked drywalls, and aiding residents in sorting through their belongings.

Fort Campbell officials say, most importantly, they cleaned up debris to ensure FEMA compliance and safety in the county landfill as well as assisted the Salvation Army with palletizing the influx of donations sent from across Tennessee.

Lieutenant Colonel S. Joel Schuldt said those who truly believe we are in a time of no real heroes simply do not know where to look.
