A man charged with attempted murder in connection to a March shooting at the Marathon on East 9th Street in Hopkinsville appeared in Christian County Circuit Court Monday morning.

During the court appearance, Jaylynn Cheatham appeared virtually from the Christian County Jail before Judge Andrew Self, with his attorney, David Rye, in the courtroom. Rye told Judge Self that things are on hold in the case, as they are waiting for three additional indictments.

The next Christian County Grand Jury will meet Friday, August 6, with the indictments against Cheatham expected to be brought before them.

Judge Self set a pretrial conference for Cheatham on Monday morning, August 9.

Cheatham is facing charges of attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault, and four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment following a March 27 incident at the gas station.

He is accused of shooting 20-year old Darrius Quarles of Hopkinsville, and 38-year old Byran Jones of Cadiz. Police said Quarles was shot several times and was transported by ambulance to Tennova Healthcare in Clarksville. Jones reportedly showed up at Jennie Stuart Medical Center after the shooting, where he was treated and released.
