Tardy Guardrails Keep New Hope Road Closed

A section of New Hope Road in Trigg County remains closed as transportation engineers wait for the arrival of special guardrail posts to complete a construction project.

Keith Todd with the transportation cabinet said the special guardrail posts had to be ordered along the edge of a culvert to maintain the appropriate travel lane width. Todd said engineers are optimistic the guardrail and posts will arrive sometime in the next week. Concrete and paving work has already been completed.

New Hope Road about a mile south of the South intersection has been closed since May 13 due to a damaged culvert. Traffic has been forced to use a nearly 10-mile detour on Maggie Road since then to access parts of New Hope Road.

Between 250 and 300 vehicles travel New Hope Road daily, according to the state transportation cabinet.
