Popular Elkton Soda Bar To Reopen Next Month

A popular Elkton restaurant that was closed before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the closure of many small businesses has announced they will reopen next month.

The L&R Soda Fountain on the Elkton Square will have a grand opening in mid to late July but will help celebrate the Independence Day holiday by offering ice cream on July 3rd prior to the city’s fireworks show.

The L&R Soda Fountain was opened 10 years ago by Kenny and Heather Clayton in connection with the pharmacy business that they owned and operated at the time.

The Claytons opted to close the restaurant in early 2020 to make improvements. The closure lasted much longer when the COVID-19 pandemic forced many small businesses to close and restaurants to operate at reduced capacity.

The reopening of the L&R Soda Fountain is made possible by the Claytons and the efforts of the newly formed Todd County Foundation, a Kentucky non-profit organization. According to a release from the Todd County Foundation, all profits generated by the L&R Soda Fountain will be retained by the Foundation for reinvestment into the Todd County community through projects to improve and support the quality of life in the community.

The Foundation said they have selected management veteran Felix Diaz to serve as general manager of the restaurant.
