U.S. Senator Rand Paul visited Cadiz Tuesday morning to hear concerns about Land Between the Lakes.
During the nearly hour-long discussion, Senator Paul heard comments from Judge/Executive Hollis Alexander, former Kentucky State Parks Commissioner Donnie Holland, Terry Hamby, and community members that had family members who lived ‘Between the Rivers.’
Holland and Hamby shared the history of Land Between the Lakes and what happened when the federal government made the recreation area. Both talked about how the Tennessee Valley Authority and now the Forestry Service have treated the land and early proposed budget cuts that could impact the region over the next few years.
The discussion even went into flaws to the Land Between the Lakes Protection Act of 1998 that Holland and Hamby and many in attendance said needed to be changed.
Following the discussion, Senator Paul told the News Edge he understands the importance of the national recreation area.
Paul added his office has already started the work to try and help fix the issues of Land Between the Lakes.
Before the discussion in the Trigg County Fiscal Courtroom, Senator Paul visited the Commonwealth Agri Energy Ethanol Plant in Hopkinsville to discuss agriculture-related issues.
Senator Paul is a big proponent of keeping the government off the farm, which he says is still being worked on.
Senator Paul also made stops in Murray and Mayfield Tuesday to discuss issues businesses and law enforcement face.
