Hopkinsville Honors Fallen Officers During Peace Officers Memorial Day Ceremony

The City of Hopkinsville hosted the annual Peace Officers Memorial Day ceremony Friday to honor and remember the law enforcement members who lost their lives while on duty in Hopkinsville or Christian County.

Henry Gould

During the service held at Memorial Park, directly behind the Hopkinsville Police Department, local Fraternal Order of Police President Henry Gould said every day we ask a great deal of the men and women who choose to dedicate their lives to serving the community as a law enforcement officer.

Gould added they do all of this not knowing what the day will bring or if they will return to their families after the shift is over.

He said the demonization of police officers across the country has made law enforcement jobs less safe.

Even with the added threats while on the job, Gould said the men and women in uniform still perform their duties, not once wavering from oaths or obligations. He added law enforcement is a higher calling for those who take the oath to protect and serve.

Wendell Lynch

Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch read off a list of those who died while protecting the Hopkinsville and Christian County community.
