Pfizer COVID Vaccines Available For Kentuckians 12 And Older

Governor Andy Beshear announced Wednesday that Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines are available for Kentuckians age 12 to 15.

The governor’s announcement was made on the heels of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s emergency use authorization, which supports the use of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine among those 12 years of age and older, and subsequent approval for the usage among younger Americans from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

According to a report from the Kaiser Family Foundation, approximately 231,000 residents are in the 12-15 age group, which makes up roughly 5% of the state’s total population.

On Wednesday, Kentucky added 680 new COVID-19 cases and ten new deaths, one being from the statewide death audit. The testing positivity rate is now 3.08-percent.

Currently, there are 425 residents hospitalized, 105 in the ICU, and 50 on the ventilator.
