Lyon, Christian County at Opposite Ends of State Vaccination Rates

Helped by the vaccination of two state correctional facilities there, Lyon County has one of the highest vaccination rates in the state and the highest in western Kentucky.

Numbers released by the Centers for Disease Control Tuesday, showed 37-percent of Lyon County’s residents have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. That includes 66-percent of the county’s population that is 65 and older.

Numbers released by the state show nearly 42-percent of Kentuckians vaccinated are 60 and older.

Hancock County at 34-percent and Marshall County at 30-percent are the only other countries of the 34 western-most Kentucky counties with a vaccination rate of 30-percent or higher.

The three lowest counties for vaccination rates in western Kentucky are Christian County at 14.4-percent, Ballard County at 16.4-percent, and Todd County at 17.8-percent.

In the nine-county Pennyrile Region, Caldwell County and Hopkins County are tied for second behind Lyon County with a vaccination rate of 28.7-percent.

In both Lyon and Caldwell counties, 66-percent of the county’s 65 and older population have received one dose of a vaccine. In Trigg County, it’s 60-percent. The number drops to 52-percent in Christian County and 50-percent.

As of the start of the week, nearly 40-percent of all Kentuckians had received at least one shot of a COVID-19 vaccine.
