Man Arraigned in Court For 2019 Attempted Murder of Police Officer

Keith Kuzyk

A Clarksville man, who has already been sentenced in federal court, was arraigned in Christian County Circuit Court Thursday morning.

Keith Kuzyk appeared virtually from the Christian County Jail before Judge John Atkins. Kuzak is charged in connection to the February 2019 shooting of Hopkinsville Police Officer Jeremy Davidson.

Judge Atkins accepted a not guilty plea on Kuzyk’s behalf on charges of attempted murder of a police officer, first-degree assault, felony auto theft, first-degree wanton endangerment, receiving stolen property, and fleeing or evading police.

Judge Atkins also appointed public defender Rick Sanborne to represent his case.

Judge Atkins continued the case to May 19 to allow Sanborne time to review the evidence in the case.

Kuzyk pled guilty in U.S. District Court to charges of carjacking, use and discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence, and being a felon in possession of a firearm and was sentenced to 18 years in federal prison in December.

All of the charges stem from a carjacking at the Hopkinsville Walmart on February 18, 2019. A woman called 911 reporting that a masked gunman stole her Chevy Tahoe. At least three suspects in a Dodge Ram were also believed to be involved.

While attempting to stop the suspect’s vehicle later that day, Hopkinsville police used spike sticks to slow the Ram.

Kuzyk allegedly fired multiple shots at Officer Jeremy Davidson, hitting him in the arm and grazing his head.

Kuzyk was arrested the following day in Montgomery County, Tennessee, after stealing another vehicle from Hopkinsville.
