Preliminary Inspection Determines No Flood Damage To Hal Fennell Bridge

The state has inspected the Hal Fennell Bridge on Glenwood Mill Road following flooding last month that caused a large amount of debris to become backed up on Little River.

Trigg County Judge-executive Hollis Alexander said the state took a look at the bridge last week and found no evidence of movement or damage.

click to download audioThe bridge spans 83 feet and has a total length of 166 feet. While the bridge is owned and maintained by the county, Alexander said the state will inspect on request any bridge over 20 feet. Alexander said he requested last week’s inspection based on a large amount of debris that was backed up on the east side.

click to download audioThe bridge was built in 1983 and is usually closed following heavy rain as high water traverses the Little River from Christian County to Lake Barkley. Meanwhile, Alexander said there were around 15 areas of the county that had washouts due to the heavy rains, including three on Cadiz Maggie Road.

click to download audioAlexander said another washout happened on Oak Grove Church Road. He added all have been repaired and are open to traffic.

The washouts and high water were the results of Trigg and Christian counties receiving nearly three inches of rain on Sunday, February 28.
