Christian County School Board Approves Graduation Date

Christian County Public School board members approved the graduation date for the Class of 2021.

District Director of Pupil Personnel Melanie Barrett told board members the proposed graduation date would be Friday, May 21.

Superintendent Chris Bentzel shared what the changes could be if state COVID-19 guidelines are not changed.

The graduation date was approved unanimously, while Bentzel said any changes would be brought back to the board for approval.

In other board action, the virtual learning academy plan was approved for the 2021-22 school year. VLA Principal Arnelle Wesley told board members they would only teach 4th through 12th-grade students beginning next school year.

Wesley added they would have to cap registration to 600 students.

If COVID-19 concerns continue into the next school year, the district will continue operating the virtual learning academy the way they are now.

VLA students would not be eligible to participate in extracurricular or co-curricular activities.

Registration for the 2021-22 virtual learning academy will begin next week.
